Amazing 4 mile run...

I had an amazing 4-mile run this morning. According to my Garmin, I averaged 8:25/mm. Not too bad I guess. Of course there's always room for improvement. It was a beautiful 63 degrees when I left at 6:40 am! I ran in shorts and a tank. I felt so good after the run too...SPRING is definitely in the air.

I want to get a couple of marathon books too...I'm considering this one and this one. Anyone have any suggestions? How about gu vs. sport jelly beans? Just thinking ahead to my long runs...

Both of those books are great!!! I LOVE the schedule in the first book, minus the tapering at the end, I find I do much better when I reduce my running, but not nearly as much as they mention in the book. After I did the MCM I read an article in one of the running magazines saying the same thing, so I did not taper for my next marathon, and preferred it! As for the Gu- I was fine with it until the actual marathon and it made me sick as hell, it was awful. The jelly beans and the Cliff Shot Bloks are better for me, and I always bring a handful of pretzels or something like that to marathons to ease the impact on my stomach.

hey, I decided to journal my training experience over here, so I wouldn't bore those not interested with the details...thanks for the advice JT! I will take any advice you give me, what's your thought on fuel belts? or did you hide treasures for your long runs?

I love runs like this one! Congrats on your decision to run a marathon. I am a running mom of 3 also. I use Gu and I don't love the way it tastes, but it works. I love my fuel belt! They don't bounce and I like having the storage pocket for Gu or my cell phone! Good luck with your training. I look forward to checking back with your blog.

I have a few different fuel belts, and they all work well for me. I also have one with a big water bottle made by Brooks. The belt I like the best is the Fuel Belt without the water bottles. It has enough room for Gu, Jelly Beans, pretzels, tissues, you can pin your number to it, and it is comfy. I run my longest runs holding a water bottle- but that doesn't work for a lot of people. I went to a running store and tried a bunch on- you'll have to decide where on your hips you want it to fall- I am fine with anywhere, but some of the belts bother some people.

I just found your blog last night from Run Happy's blog. I would love to hear how your marathon ended up going. I was in the process of training for my first marathon when I (unexpectedly) found myself pregnant with our 4th child (we have 3 boys). I gain A LOT of weight during pregnancy, and was a little discouraged at the thought of doing it all again. I was really encouraged by your post where you talked about getting your body back and losing 72 pounds!!!
I was using the Non Runner's Marathon Trainer and LOVED it. Overcoming mental hurdles has been such a huge help to me and for the first time, I actually really like to run!! I am looking forward to going back through all your archives to help keep me motivated to RUN!!! I also live in the south (GA, near Savannah) so I know about running in the heat! Also, I would love to hear about how you liked the Cooper Bridge Run. I have a few friends that are planning to do it this year. I completed the Savannah River Bridge Run in December and really loved it!
